MAI LY TORRES BAKER
Hello! I am a young artist born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. My journey as an artist began as a child when my mother put me in art classes where we worked with number of mediums: clay, paint, glass, fabric, chalk, and more. I was enthralled with the act of creation and I instantly fell in love with visual arts.
My journey as a Santera began in 2010 when I met the renowned artist, Nicholas Otero from Los Lunas, New Mexico. The skilled Santero took me under his wing as my mentor and guide. He taught me the traditional making of the Spanish art: Retablos. With Nicolas Otero as my mentor, I entered the Traditional Spanish Market, held annually in the Santa Fe Plaza. I continue to show and sell my retablos at Spanish Market.
In my free time I enjoy drawing and painting with acrylics or watercolor. Primarily engaging with photo references to create vibrant pieces of work. I strive for my work to capture the essence of the human nature, the energy here on Earth, and utilize bold colors. Enjoy!
